Colombia has passed to the next step of anti-tobacco and electronic cigarettes company. This week was held a meeting where The Columbia City Council voted 6-1 for the adoption of a proposals which prohibit the sale of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes to people under 21 years old. They also voted pro ban of the electronic cigarette use in public buildings. Those who voted against was Fifth Ward Councilwoman Laura Nauser, she commented her decision saying that this adoption of a proposals infringed on individual choice.

The ordinances took effect immediately.

Many voted pro, because according to Statistics World Health Organization, more than half of smokers who currently smoke tobacco cigarettes or switched to electronic cigarettes, started smoking until 21 years old. They have a lot of examples and statistics which prove that in an early age smoking habit is developing more rapidly as after 21 years old. So led his example Third Ward Councilman Karl Skala, about how he started smoking in an early age in the army and saw how his unit while had two choices for rewards: a cigarette or writing home, choose cigarettes not letters, he said. But unlike many smokers, he was able to defeat his bad dependence on tobacco.

Nevertheless, in the hearing was introduced a petition signed by more than 2,600 residents opposed to restricting tobacco use, it was presented by executive director at Missouri Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association Ronald Leone. But as always, no one took it into account. He said the ordinances would push sales into the county, which he warned would impact Columbia's economy.

October 28, 2014 Evanston Council approved an amendment to prohibit buying cigarettes, other tobacco products or nicotine-containing liquids to anyone under the age of 21.
